Quarantine Regulations

Introduction
Each ship's medical officer or medical department representative needs to remain well informed of current quarantine regulations and instructions so they can advise the commanding officer on quarantine measures or regulations for foreign port visits. See SECNAVINST 6210.2, pertinent fleet instructions, MANMED chapter 22, and other current directives, as they become available for guidance.
Quarantine forms and Reports
The medical department submits quarantine forms and reports as required by SECNAVINST 6210.2 and other directives, to the commanding officer for signature. Ships returning to the United States from other countries need not submit quarantine forms. U.S. quarantine inspectors will fill out the appropriate form if required.
- The ship's preventive medicine technician (or another medical department representative) must inspect all mooring and service lines upon arrival in any port to ensure that adequate rat guards have been properly placed on all lines.
- A current (within 6 months) deratting or deratting exemption certificate must be maintained onboard all ships.
- For a ship whose deratting or deratting exemption will expire before a foreign post visit, a one-time extension can be obtained by contacting the nearest Navy Environmental Preventive Medicine Unit (NEPMU) or Naval Hospital Preventive Medicine department.
